Yes. OSHA's forklift rule, 29 CFR 1910.178, calls for formal instruction, a hands-on evaluation, and a refresher every 3 years. This course is the formal instruction and exam. It also gives your employer the signed evaluation form for the hands-on part.

Online Forklift Certification FAQ

How do I get forklift certified?
Three steps. First, complete the formal instruction: our online course covers every topic in 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(3) in about an hour, then you pass a 30-question exam with free retakes. Second, download your certificate and wallet card the same day. Third, your employer or a qualified trainer watches you operate the truck you will actually use and signs off the hands-on evaluation. Once that is on file, you are certified for 3 years. The course is $59 and there is nothing to schedule.
What does the forklift certification cover?
The certification covers all Class I through Class VII powered industrial trucks, including sit-down counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, order pickers, and pallet jacks. You'll learn pre-operation inspection, load handling, stability principles, refueling procedures, and pedestrian safety.
How long is the forklift certification valid?
OSHA requires forklift operators to be re-evaluated every three years. Your certification is valid for three years from the date of completion. The valid-through date is printed on your certificate and wallet card.
Is this certification valid in all 50 states?
Yes. OSHA is a federal agency, so the training requirements under 29 CFR 1910.178 apply nationwide. Some states like California (Cal/OSHA) have additional requirements, but our course meets or exceeds both federal and state standards.
How do I renew my forklift certification?

It's the same full course, exam, certificate, and wallet card as first-time certification, priced lower because you've done this before, whether that was with us or another provider. Your new certificate is valid for another three years. Your employer still needs to do the hands-on evaluation.
Should I take certification or recertification?
Take certification for $59 if you have never been certified as a forklift operator before. Take recertification for $49 if you've been certified before, by us or any other provider, even if that certification has expired. Both are the same full course and give you the same certificate and wallet card.
Do I need a forklift license?
There is no federal forklift license, and OSHA does not issue cards. Some states add a license for certain jobs. Massachusetts generally requires a state hoisting license unless the operator is the company's own employee on company-owned property closed to the public, and Rhode Island requires one for forklift work in construction. What federal law requires everywhere is employer certification under 29 CFR 1910.178(l): formal training, a hands-on evaluation, and a written record with the operator's name and the training and evaluation dates. Do you need a driver's license to drive a forklift?
No. Forklifts run on private property, so no driver's license, DMV test, or road permit is involved, and OSHA does not ask for one. Employers only need the training and evaluation record required by 29 CFR 1910.178(l). Two things to know: if a job involves driving the forklift on a public road, state traffic rules can apply, and some employers ask for a driver's license as their own hiring policy. Is online forklift certification legit and OSHA compliant?
Yes. Our course covers the formal instruction (classroom) part of the training OSHA requires under 29 CFR 1910.178(l). The other two parts, practical training and a hands-on evaluation, happen at your workplace: your employer provides them and documents the evaluation.
Is this course OSHA certified or OSHA approved?
No forklift course is. OSHA does not approve, certify, or accredit any training provider, and it does not issue certificates. OSHA writes the training standard (29 CFR 1910.178), employers certify their operators after a hands-on evaluation, and training providers like us deliver the formal instruction portion. Our course meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.178. If another provider claims to be 'OSHA approved' or 'OSHA certified', that claim is inaccurate.
Can I get forklift certified without an employer?
You can complete the training half on your own. Take the course, pass the exam, and you have a certificate showing a future employer that you have done the formal instruction required by 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(2). The hands-on evaluation has to be done by an employer or a qualified trainer on a real truck, so certification is finished once you start a job. Many people take the course before applying so they can list it on their resume and skip the classroom step on day one.
Do I still need hands-on training?
Yes. OSHA requires both classroom-style training (which our course covers) and a hands-on practical evaluation at your workplace. The employer conducts and documents that evaluation.
